Stop and Smell the Roses Blog Bouquet

Thanks for stopping to smell a Cactus Rose today!

I’m often asked why I write western historical romances. My first response is always the same— “Because I wanted to grow up and marry Little Joe Cartwright.” Seriously, I did. Yeah, I know—me and about fifty million other girls! I guess I’ve always had a thing for cowboys. The 19th century seems like a quieter, simpler time of life, and overall, much more romantic than the 21st century. Immersing myself in researching and writing historical westerns allows me to experience ‘once upon a time and happily ever after’ every time I sit down at my computer.

A touch about my stories:

Mail Order Husband—1870’s Black Hills. She didn’t want a husband, she needed one. He’s caught simply by surprise—drugged and shipped to the Black Hills.

A Wife for Big John—1890’s Northern Minnesota lumber camp. She didn’t need a husband, she needed a job. He passes out the first time they meet…mainly due to the fact she’s acting as a mid-wife by delivering a baby in his bedroom.

An Unbelievable Journey—(Time travel) 1880’s Nebraska. She falls off a cliff in Maine and lands in the Wild West. He’s shocked by her dress, language, and the jewelry in her belly button.

Shotgun Bride-The Quinter Brides Book One—1880’s Southwestern Kansas. She’s traded for a dead horse. He’s knocked unconscious and hogtied. Without choice, they’re married.

An April to Remember—1865 Memphis, Tennessee. She distrusts men—all men. He loves woman—all woman. They’re thrown together in the muddy Mississippi when the historical Sultana explodes.

Rancher McBride—1870’s Northeastern Kansas. She doesn’t want to be a rancher’s wife; she wants to be a rancher. He wants Josie, not some fancy gal. Do clothes make the man, or woman?

Doctor McBride—1870’s Northeastern Kansas. She knows what she wants—Dr. Jake McBride. A McBride’s word is as good as gold, and he promised to leave her alone. He can’t go back on his word, can he?

Sheriff McBride-Lawmen and Outlaws Anthology—1870’s Northeastern Kansas. She knew the law would eventually catch up with her. He knows she’s hiding something, but one kiss proves he’s willing to give up the law for her.

Coming in October: Kendra’s Choice. 1880’s Eastern Colorado. She needs a man—for research. Who’s he to deny the needs of a young, beautiful woman?

And Coming in November: Badland Bride-The Quinter Brides Book Two—(Time Travel) 1880’s Western Kansas. Pregnant and outrunning a mad man, she crawls into the past. He takes her home, and gets the last thing he expects. A wedding.

Reviews for all of these stories are posted in the sidebar of this page.

As you can tell my favorite time period is the Wild West, from the 1860-1900’s. This is also my favorite time to read about. What is your favorite time period, and why? By leaving a comment you’ll be entered in a drawing for an e-book of your choice from those listed above except Sheriff McBride-Lawmen and Outlaws, (due to the fact it is an anthology) and of course those not released yet, Kendra’s Choice and Badland Bride. I will post the winner on Wednesday so be sure to stop by.

Now it’s time to stop and smell the roses of another Wild Rose Press Author: Here’s the links. Enjoy!

yep, I was one of the 50 million. I also have a real thing for Little House on the Prairie. I'm right there with you and the Wild West. I still love going down to Tombstone. :)

I was one of those 50 million girls, too! Maybe we should start a club :) Your stories all sound wonderful, Lauri.

LOL I had a crush on Adam, the oldest brother. But definitely the Wild West and the Civil War era are my favorite time periods to escape to.

When I need a break away from the stress of day to day, I'll pop a western-theme movie, i.e. Tombstone, Wyatt Earp or my fave, The Cheyenne Social Club.

Has everyone stopped to grab a copy of PRAIRIE TALE, Melissa Gilbert's memoirs? It's a hoot! I grew up on Westerns and just realized I need another book or two. ;) Have a great day, Lauri!

I love cowboys! I think to me, it's the modern day cowboys that really get me. I grew up on the tale end of Bonanza and Adam did it for me. I loved little Joe's sense of humor.

Little Joe was fun but I tend to go for those strong silent types like Adam. But regardless, I LOVE WESTERN ROMANCES!

Hi Lauri,

I loved Bonanza, too, and yes, it was all about Little Joe. hehe We followed him right into Little House on the Praire. Great shows!!

Oh my gosh, time periods. There are so many to choose, but as I said on another blog, I'd have to go with the WWII era. Something draws me to that time period.

Hope you have a great day!

KaAnn, I agree! Little house is right up there too!

Hmmm, Susan, the "We wanted to grow up and Marry Little Joe, club"?.

Nicole, I just watched the Cheyenne Social club a couple weeks ago. I loved Jimmy Stewart..not in the same manner as Little Joe, mind you. :)

Skye, no I don't have a copy of Prairie Tales, I'll have to get it!

Val, don't get me wrong, the modern day cowboy...those Wranglers...ah, yes, they're good!

Anne, I'm with you, LOVE WESTERN ROMANCES!

Donna, yes, it was all about Little Joe, and WWII tales can be very romantic.

Mona, I agree, cowboys are yummy!

E.H. Lawmen and Outlaws Anthology was fun to write.

Thanks for stopping by everyone! Hope you are enjoying the blog tour!

Hi Lauri, I am one of those Wild West girls myself. I'm so honored with your booklist. I am a newbie to Cactus Rose with a book out two weeks ago, and I'm so proud and happy to be with this fine house and its great authors. Your Mail-order Husband tale intrigues me as Marrying Minda is about a mail order bride.

Oh I can watch a Bonanza re-run anytime!

Here's to many more books, Lauri!

I love the Civil War period. So much conflict and those men in uniform! Yum!!

Paty Jager said...

I agree, though while I was infatuated with Little Joe, I had a secret yearning to find out what was up with Adam. LOL

Great post, Lauri! I loved little Joe, too. His crooked grin melted my heart every time.

There must be something wrong with me. I didn't get the cowboy- love gene, and I've lived in Texas most my life.

I got the bad-boy gene.

Fortunately, I finally overcame my biological deficiency and married a nice guy who loves westerns (but not for the same reasons as you gals).

My favorite time period to read about is the Civil War/Old South. There's just something so romantic about it. One of these days I'll even get up the nerve to write one of my own!

Lauri said...

Valerie, I'm glad you 'warmed up' to them! LOL

Tanya, congrats on Marrying Minda!

Susan, the Civil War is my second favorite...yup, it's the uniform!

Paty, I can see you wanting to figure out Adam! LOL

Cate, I agree, that grin was lethal!

That's great, Ann, and too funny! (The bad-boy gene!)

You go, Debra! I know you can write one! A GREAT one!

Thanks for stopping everyone!

Lauri said...

Hi SiNn! I have to agree, there is something about those lords and ladies isn't there?

LORETTA CANTON said...

Ok, I love Bonanza too. My favorite time period is the medieval age.

Kytaira said...

Well, my favorite is regency era England. You sure are wetting my appetite for a western! I did love Bonanza and Adam. My 13 yr old finally decided to read the Little House books. I think mainly because the library isn't churning out her requested books fast enough!

Your books have received so many fantastic reviews--A Wife for Big John sounds especially wonderful--it's one I'd love to read.

Lauri said...

Loretta, Medieval! I can relate!

Kytaira, Regency's are great. Love the "Lords". Kudo's to your daughter! I love to hear kids are reading!

Thanks, Jeannette! I get nervous every time a review pops in my inbox!

Thanks Everyone for stopping by. I will draw a winner tonight and post it.

I hope you all enjoyed the blog bouquet!

Cheers!
