Read an E-Book Week March 2-8

In honor of e-book week, Paty Jager and I are offering For a Sister’s Love for FREE at SMASHWORDS. http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/84043  You can either use this code: FL74J or the code offered on the site which is RW100.

I go back and forth between paper books and e-books, and I honestly can’t tell you that I like one more than the other. When I first got my Kindle, I (wrongly) assumed that would mean I’d no longer have a stack of books on my bedside table. They are still there, but so lies the Kindle. I must admit, the Kindle is my traveling partner. I must also admit I’ve brought home more than one paperback only to discover I’d already downloaded the story on my Kindle. Not that I mind. There are plenty of books that I enjoy reading more than once.

For those of you who don’t have a Kindle or other E-reader, you can download the app onto your cell phone and/or computer. (I have those, too. I really am never without a book.)

So…what else is happening around here? A lot, as usual. We’ve
received more wintery weather, which we took advantage of and dug out the toboggan. The granddaughter had a blast, and Bear, the granddog, was part of the fun. He pulled the toboggan back up the hill once, but was not impressed. I believe the thought the thing was chasing him, and the faster he ran, the faster it followed him. It was a sight. The girls also went snowplowing with Papa in his old red Chevy and while ‘blazing a new trail’ they became stuck. Luckily they were just in the woods beyond the front yard, so Isabelle ran up the driveway and she and I took the GMC down to pull them out.

We also celebrated Hayley’s birthday. She is now the ripe old age of five. We had three celebrations, one at the restaurant of her choice on her actual birthday and then yesterday we had a bowling party with a dozen of her friends, and then a family party at her home afterwards.

On the writing side, I’m on the final few chapters of the third roaring twenties story, and already getting anxious to start the fourth one. Which I must get back to right now.

Keep your head up and a smile on your face. It helps. Remembering winter can’t last for every helps, too.

Just a couple of quick things...

Paty Jager and I are over at Coffee Time Romance chatting about writing family series romance novels today. Stop by if you have a chance.

I received this review lately for Doctor McBride from Fallen Angles Reviews. Reviewer Linda says: “Doctor McBride is a breathtaking, witty story that this reader enjoyed immensely.”

Keep smiling, and have an awesome day!

Release Day!

For a Sister’s Love is now available, and it’s only .99 cents! This book about sisters, Loralei and Maggie Holmes, is two stories in one. I wrote the younger sister’s story, Loralei, and Paty Jager wrote Maggie’s story, the older sister. It was a fun experience to collaborate with Paty on creating the back stories, settings, characters and research.

Blurb:
Lorelei and Maggie Holmes make a desperate vow to reunite after an Indian raid on their wagon train leaves them orphans. Eight-year-old Lorelei is taken in by an impoverished family headed to a Colorado mining town and ten-year-old Maggie finds herself on the way to Portland, Oregon to live with a woman widowed during the Indian attack.

Ten years later, Lorelei’s adoptive father gambles away her birth mother’s locket and her only connection to her lost sister. Believing she needs the locket and to find Maggie, she sets out after the gambler and ends up in the company of a citified lawyer searching for the same man.

While cleaning a hotel room, Maggie discovers her mother’s locket in the possession of a gambler. Fear for her sister increases Maggie's determination. Never one to give up, she dogs the gambler until he agrees to help her find her sister.

Two sisters, two adventures, will they find one another or will the men helping them be their destinies?

An April to Remember is still on sale for .99 cents, too. I’m not sure how long it will stay at that price, but it’s been fun to offer a story at a discounted price.

Life on the home front has been busy as the summer winds down. Family will be arriving from Iowa next week and we’ll head up north to enjoy the woods and some fishing.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and stay safe!

Wildcat Bride

The print version of Wildcat Bride is now available at Amazon and The Wild Rose Press.

The e-book will be released on April 1st.

Tomorrow I’ll be at Paty Jager’s blog talking about it!

My mother’s birthday party was spectacular! My brother and his wife left on Sunday, and that evening called to tell me they bought a new laptop on the way home. While downloading the pictures from his camera, he realized he had the wrong camera. My other brother’s camera was identical and the two got mixed up. Thank goodness it was cameras and not kids! Most of the cousins look so much alike that could almost happen.

My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Japan and other parts of the Pacific. The wonderful people I worked with during the sale and translation of Mail Order Husband are all fine, but their emails continue to talk of after-affects I can only imagine.

I’m editing my latest WIP and hope to send it off to my critique partners this week, and then I’ll get back to my gold mine story, I think I have the kinks worked out.

Be happy, and smile at someone today—it’ll be worth it.

Ladies Night Out in Big Lake

I usually don’t blog about work things, but the event I’m hosting right now is so wonderful, if you’re anywhere near Big Lake (Minnesota) you’ll want to attend! On Tuesday, June 16th join other women at the Carousell Works in Big Lake from 6-9 PM for an evening of fun. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 at the door. (Email lauriunitedway @ nsatel.net for tickets.) The evening will include a purse raffle, a purse scavenger hunt, food by ‘A Catered Event’, a cash bar, and a variety of mini session and shopping experiences. On-site services will include massages, hair design, pedicures, psychic readings, Reiki practitioner, makeovers, a fashion show, life and business coaching, Lillian’s Purses, and more!

I had to set up one of those big, yellow, lighted signs with the individual letters to advertise the event. (I did convince my son to haul it with his pickup, I wasn’t about to put a hitch on my Mustang!) The towing went well, despite the un-summer like wind and rain that day, however, I didn’t get all the letters I needed when I picked up the sign. It took three trips to the rental store before I finally had enough letters AND numbers to complete my sign.

Okay…now for the writing side of things…

It’s Cowboy Month at the Wild Rose Press! Stop over and pick up a Cactus or Yellow Rose story, they’re all on sale! There will also be a special Cowboy Chat on their Chat Line this Thursday, June 11th at 8 PM EST.

Lawmen and Outlaws was released last week! You Gotta Read Reviews gave it a wonderful review, stating, “A thoroughly enjoyable set of stories. Each story had its own cadence and feel to it and I enjoyed them all very much.” Sheriff McBride is my story, and the other stories are Dreams of Gold by Linda Carroll-Bradd, McKenna’s Woman by Loretta C. Rogers, and The Outlaw’s Angel by Helen Hardt. It was fun to be part of this anthology.

You Gotta Read Reviews also reviewed Doctor McBride last week. Reviewer Tonya says, “I love the McBride series, these books are wonderfully written and they all connect together but have a story all their own to tell.” Romance Junkies also reviewed Doctor McBride, they gave it 4.5 ribbons, and said, “Lauri Robinson’s DOCTOR MCBRIDE is a wonderful addition to her MCBRIDE series.”

One final Cowboy note…If you are looking for a great series, try Paty Jager’s “Petticoat” Series, the third of the series Miner in Petticoats will be released this Friday from The Wild Rose Press. Others in the series include Marshall in Petticoats and Outlaw in Petticoats.

Three Things...

1. The trip up north was fun, even though they still had 40 inches of ice on Lake of the Woods. :)

2. I got my Mustang out of winter stoage last night! Lord, I love driving that car!

3. Paty Jager interviewed me for her blog. Please stop over for a visit and leave a comment!

Tag, you're it!

This morning I was ‘tagged’ by Paty Jager. (Bless her little heart, she knows I have an MS I’m working on!)

Paty, by the way, set an exercise goal this year and is walking over two miles (across rough terrain) every day…Way to go Paty! If it would ever warm up in Minnesota, I might consider walking further than from the front door to the garage in the morning and back again at night.

Anyway, for this game of tag the rules are:

Link to the person who tagged you; write down six things that make you happy; post the rules; tag six others and let them know you’ve done it; tell the person who tagged you when your entry is up.

Six Things That Make Me Happy--

1) My family—the whole gamut, from grandkids to parents, and all those assorted ‘twice removed’ cousins and shirttail relations. There is always something happening or someone around that makes me smile!

2) Our animals. Over the years we’ve had some wonderful companions, and the trio of dogs living in our house right now are a hoot!

3) Writing, writing, and writing. If someone told me they’d give me a million bucks if I never wrote again, I’d have to decline. Pulling up my latest MS always makes me happy.

4) Hearing from readers, whether it’s a review house, a friend, or an email from a stranger. I love the idea of making someone else happy, and knowing one of my stories provided them with entertainment and delight is the ultimate.

5) My Mustang. I can’t believe an inanimate object could ever instill this much passion, but Sissy does. And considering the number of years I dreamed about her makes her seem like a fairytale everyday. (Yes, she is still in storage, and I’m anxiously awaiting spring…or summer depending on the length of the deep freeze we are experiencing in Minnesota right now.)

6) Crawling into bed every night and thanking the good Lord for the life He is encouraging me to live.

Now for six people to tag…Hmmm…since I love historical romance, especially western, I think I’ll go for six authors who write them. (Several of these writers post on the Cactus Rose Blog, be sure to check it out!)
